Each Poem is a Sunset
“John Wood’s collection is a pure delight that invites readers into his clear-eyed poetic vision.
In Each Poem Is a Sunset you will be treated to an exquisite reverence and respect for nature,
as well as an infectious, genuine gratitude for being alive. As both title and cover suggest, many of the
poems deal with sea and sky, but also with all the seasons and cycles of life. With his curious nature,
Wood ponders deep questions, but also life’s absurdities. The voice of these poems is generous, vulnerable,
optimistic, and humbly wise.”

Poem from Each Poem is a Sunset
The Sunset Will Be Yours
I wrote the sunset poem long before I saw the sunset. The words had just been there sleeping until they awoke and came to me. Each sunset is a poem or painting waiting for the artist or the poet to know it. Sunsets always surprise my eyes just before they come alive in me, and the pen pushes the words that I hear out of my hand. The paper saves them, so if you wish you can see without your eyes what mine have seen. Maybe then you’ll be able to find your own sunset that, if you are lucky, will come alive in you.
